Dermal fillers have been used for cosmetic purposes since the 1980s. They are an aesthetic tool that makes the skin appear plumper and smoother. For example, they can smooth lines around the nose, plump the lips, reduce vertical lines around the mouth, improve the appearance of hollowing in the cheeks or temples, smooth chin creases and contour facial asymmetry.

The substance differs depending on your preferences and what your doctor recommends. Depending on the filler used, some dermal fillers can last six to twelve months, while others can last years. Today, several FDA-approved fillers are used in aesthetic treatments, all of which have excellent safety and efficacy profiles. Hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, polymethylmethacrylate and autologous dermal filler injection are among them.

It should be noted that autologous fat injections are the only type of dermal filler that necessitates minor surgery and downtime to remove the fat before grafting.
